Find Peace in Nature: A Restorative Escape to North Vancouver Island

Finding your Sanctuary in Nature

Time spent alone in nature is restorative, it can provide space to and time to tap into your senses in order to quiet the mind.

You arrive midday. You can’t help but feel the buzz and the hurried sensation of wrapping up loose ends before you leave — the push and pull of your fragmented attention — it has you feeling frenzied. The weight of your busy life, its noise and mental clutter, doesn’t let go easily. It trails you, humming just beneath the surface.

But now, you step into something else entirely. The wild expanse of North Vancouver Island and the shores of Upper Campbell Lake offer an expansive retreat and playground all at once. It’s time to exhale. It’s time to get lost in reverie.

Engage the Senses: Noticing the Subtle Shifts in Nature

Our days are increasingly becoming filled with information at a hurried pace. Our senses can become overwhelmed and overstimulated, stunting the ease and enjoyment of the simple pleasures.

Our need to reconnect with the natural world is precisely the antidote we require for our busy bodies. As our guests, the Lodge is your base to launch from. Here, signs of spring are all around us and impossible to ignore.

Become a patient observer, take notice of the gradual unfolding of spring as you look to the skies or the treetops with the first and most obvious sign being birdsong. You will hear and see migratory species on their return back to our forests. You will smell the moisture in the air and the earthy scent of the forest floor waking up. The budding leaves and plants are a visual clue, as are the longer days and evening light casting longer shadows, illuminating the surrounding sparkling lakes and rivers.

Tap into your senses and take pleasure in witnessing the world around you slowly coming to life.

The Unhurried Mind: Allowing Space for Daydreams

Finding a sit spot in nature and taking note of the small wonders that allow quiet and calm

Letting the quiet symphony of nature wash over and renew. Sometimes, all you need is a log and the wilderness.

As an off-grid lodge, our world doesn’t compete for your attention. Here, you can simply be — embracing moments of stillness, moving through your day without an agenda, letting your thoughts drift and wander as you do the same on quiet excursions into nature.

If you’re feeling the to do’s creep in, let nature guide you back into the present. Take notice again of the pace of nature, and allow your mind to match that pace.

The sensory playground is yours to enjoy, so long as you can lull your mind into the gentle reverie that has truly become an art in a busy world. Mental spaciousness can allow for unexpected insight, creative breakthroughs and a deeper sense of inner peace and healing. Let your imagination run wild and your worries dissipate.

Embrace Solitude: Observing the Gift of Being Alone

Enter JOMO: the Joy of Missing Out. A gentle rebellion against the pressure of doing, being, and constantly connecting. Unlike FOMO (fear of missing out), JOMO invites you to relish the stillness.

While being alone can feel daunting, it can also be a gift. Allowing time for self reflection without distraction (or the seemingly impossible temptation of distraction) can take some practice.

Breathing in the fresh air, exhaling the day's stresses. Nature's restorative touch is undeniable.

Allowing yourself to use your sit spot to embrace solitude can be your sanctuary from the demands of daily living. That mossy log may just offer up some personal reflection all the while setting the stage for intention, growth and vibrancy.

We are a part of nature, and our interconnectedness to the natural world quickly becomes clear when we allow ourselves the space to reconnect with these natural rhythms.

Disconnect and Do Nothing: Recalibrating Your Baseline

Our routines shape us more than we realize. But when your eyes open to a new morning here, you’re offered the chance to greet the day differently. As our guest, we invite you to step away from your screens and reconnect with something simpler—the rhythm of the rising and setting sun.

Give yourself the gift of tech-free time. Without the constant tug of digital noise, your senses begin to open. You start to notice the beauty that once slipped quietly by. A mind overloaded with noise can’t take in the beauty of nuance.

But here, at SPL, you have space to see, to feel, and to simply be.
